Pendleton Roundup

Pendleton filled up and got pretty busy the week of round-up.  Even though there was no school, we decided to stick around and see what it was all about.  We really enjoyed it!  The main street was completely closed off to traffic and there were vendors and live entertainment on every block.

I took the kids down to mainstreet one afternoon and we watched a few of the free shows and I also bought them a slushy treat which the boys are enjoying here:
Mostly we went to main street in the evenings.  It was really fun to listen to all of the music and eat the fair food!  We also took the kids to the carnival one night and let them ride one ride of their choice.  Only the little boys wanted to.  Nolan's ride scared the pants off of him, but he enjoyed it - it was some deal that you climbed into a train and then went around on a huge circle upside down.  Abram talked Maddie into going on the spider with him and they both HATED it!  Maddie said that Abram screamed at the top of his lungs the whole entire ride.  Pace enjoyed his tame little dragon train ride.
Walking around at the carnival:

One afternoon we walked down around the rodeo grounds to see all of the indian teepees.  Some indians come and camp out during the roundup. And, we have discovered that the Indians WANT to be called Indians.  At least around here.

Isabelle, Pace, Adelaide Tesch, Nolan, Abam:

Isabelle and I went to the girls Native American Beauty pageant one morning because her friend Kirsten Spencer (Mckay creek ward) was participating.  She looked amazing, and ended up winning one of the awards:

We also, OF COURSE, attended the rodeo in the one-of-a-kind-grass arena. It's HUGE:

All of the Indian Teepees are set up on the other side of the arena:

The rodeo was AWESOME!  I can definitely see why it's so famous. So well done and very entertaining.

After a week of festivities, with something going on every hour of every day, the roundup ended with another parade!

I think we'll probably stick around for it next year, too!
