December

Abram was perfectly agreeable one day all through piano practicing, jobs and school, so he and I had a lunch date!

A beautiful sunrise:

Isabelle was trying on some clothes and Anni was looking just like a teenager:

Abram showing off some Ethiopian food that he made:

The kids painting some ornaments for the "kid tree"

November happenings

Pace sleeps so cozily:

All I got for Abram's birthday, in the way of documentation, was a video of him with his cake:( I don't even have a picture of him at the Trampoline Park that he chose to go to in the Tri-Cities.  But I have a picture of Pace and Anni:
Caden with his companion Elder Harris:

Above: Marilyn playing catch with Pace

We had dinner with the Riley's while we were in Idaho and Tara showed Anni these kittens.  Anni was thrilled and looked so cute:

...and the second Anni does something cute, this is what the girls look like:

Every phone on the ready!

Kami and Maddie rode home with Eli for Thanksgiving break and got in really late.  I was so excited to have everyone home and under the same roof all together, so I took off the next morning ASAP to get them from mom and dads.  At Ladd Canyon it started to snow, and dad was acting like the weather was really bad, so I had him meet me in North Powder.  The roads were pretty bad getting into North Powder and the girls said they had pushed the car to get it out of mom and dads driveway, so the weather was getting pretty bad going in that direction.  However, once we got to Lagrande, the roads were once again as clear as could be.

We were about 30 minutes from Pendleton when it started feeling like I was driving a canoe.  I pulled over and the tire was as flat as flat could be.  We sat for an hour waiting for Shawn and that will be a memorable experience.  A snowplow pulled up behind us and protected us from traffic since we were in a less-than-ideal spot.

The only pictures I got of Thanksgiving.  We spent Thanksgiving with my family and Kami and Eli were enjoying Andrew:

The day after Thanksgiving we cooked up our own turkey, and this is Shawn teaching the kids how to cook the bird:

We went to visit mom and dad one evening so that the boys could play in the snow.  Their clothes got so wet that we put them in the dryer and dad let them wear his sweats and sweatshirt.

Halloween 2019

A couple of weeks before Halloween I suddenly remembered that I have always wanted to dress a toddler up as "boo" from Monsters Inc.  I decided that now was my chance, so I talked the boys into being Monster's Inc. characters as well.

Then I got busy making costumes.  First Sully, but I bought a mask to go with it.  Them Mike, by covering an exercise ball with paper mache.  After the first layer, I set it outside on the deck to dry in the sun.  I forgot about it and noticed it out there the next morning, all shrunken in because it was so cold outside.  I brought it in and set it inside of the fire where it then expanded and all the paper ripped apart.  Up to that point, I had been very careful to paper AROUND the air port of the ball, but when I went to fix the paper, I forgot and papered over it.  After about ten layers, and many days of drying,  I set the ball back outside in the cold so that it would shrink and so that I could (hopefully) cut out the paper without popping the ball.  It worked, and by some miracle I chose the exact spot on the ball to cut that was exactly over the air hole, so I still have an exercise ball!

My cute monster crew:

Isabelle ended up having districts on Halloween in The Dalles so by the time we got home the kids didn't have long to Trick-or-Treat, but it was still a good Halloween.  Nolan stayed home and helped hand out candy this year.

October Happenings

Nolan has really been into building this year.  He got really excited in October about building a fort in the corner of the backyard.  He found some scraps of wood and got part of all the walls up and two completely built before we sold our house and he stopped working on it because we were going to be leaving and would have to tear it down. While the excitement lasted, he was out there every spare moment during "recesses" or after school work was done for the day.

This was a Young Women's activity while Natalie Barton (in pink) showed the girls how to curl hair using Natalie Crowder as a model. I love these ladies - they are part of my presidency.  I particularly don't know what I would do without Natalie C.  There have been months where it has been just she and I doing everything and she is such a support.

Some of the girls trying it out:
Pace after scoring a goal:
The kids decided to participate in a Halloween Fun run in the community that Isabelle's team was helping with. They all did VERY well.
The reason for that was that they made up half of the runners, haha:

Anni came in last with her short little legs, but I was proud of her because she ran all the way around the track inside the Pendleton Round-up grounds without stopping.  Abram was first and Pace was third.

These pumpkin rolls have become a tradition.  The kids get so excited when I make them that I make them A LOT:

Captain America dressing a baby doll one morning during scriptures:

Abram read about Shackleton and then was really excited to freeze a toy boat into some water and then chisel it out.  He was so excited that he got the bowl out of the freezer after a couple of hours and was really disappointed that it came out of the ice so quickly.  I told him to try it again and let it sit overnight.  He was pretty excited that it worked the second time.  I never can tell what will catch my kids interest because I never would have expected this to!  Abram couldn't stop thinking/talking about this - he explained in detail what he would use for a chisel and how he would chisel it out:)

Isabelle must have another race coming up because she's out there shaving her legs again!

Date night with Shawn at the movies.  Isabelle had been teasing us about how parent's take selfies.  I have no idea what parents normally do, because we don't take many, but we were early so we sat and took some selfies together.  We stopped when some people asked if we had just gotten married, haha.   Why else would we be excited about taking pictures together?

I thought fall was pretty in the backyard outside my bathroom window one morning:

Pace and his friend Savannah at a soccer game:

Within a matter of days, Pace and Anni got horrible-looking goose-eggs.  Pace bonked his head on a wall:

...and Anni was jumping on Caden's bed and fell off and hit her head on his night stand.  It always worries us when she gets an injury because we're afraid the CPS will think we're beating her or something.  As the swelling went down, she got a pretty good bruise.  As luck would have it, she was scheduled for some sort of assessment.   We walked in and the woman did all of her interviewing in the dark for some reason, so all was well.

David Farber is doing home school this year, too, and he and Nolan are in the exact same books, so he came and schooled with us for a week.  It was fun to have him and we fit in some fun activities while he was here.  We all went to the Pendleton Woolen Mills, again, and swimming, made caramel apples, lots of airplanes, and to parks.

The kids who wanted to, carved pumpkins.  I helped Pace and Anni:

I wish I could put a video up of Nolan in motion - he is fun to watch!  Shawn was able to help coach his team this year and it was a great experience for them to share together:

Anni got potty trained!! She's so independent that it was a trying experience at times, but potty training is ALWAYS a trying experience.  Dare I hope that I am finally done with it??

Cross Country Season

Isabelle had a great cross country season and is officially hooked on running.

Some of the kids on her team:

Someone caught some great pictures at the beginning of this race:

Fall

While Maddie was home for her fall break, we went on a "field trip" to the pumpkin patch in Hermiston:

Everyone got to go pick out a pumpkin:

Anni remembered pumpkins from last year and was particularly excited:

Anni has finally found something that occupies her time for more than five minutes!  She sits by the hour in the boy's room, putting on layer after layer of shirts, shorts and socks and says she is "getting ready for soccer!"  I have found up to 9 layers on her at one time.  Pretty funny, but not surprising that she takes soccer preparation seriously since she has three brothers in the thick of playing it right now.

Meanwhile, Isabelle is running Cross Country and is the second fastest girl in the school as a freshman!  So she has been able to be on varsity.  She gets ready for her Cross Country races by shaving her legs out on the deck. Maybe she's just taking advantage of the view.
